Registration forms will also be provided at the audition.  Callbacks will be by invitation only Saturday, July 30, if needed.  Details will be included if invited to callbacks.  Rehearsals begin August 15th with a cast meeting August 2nd. Rehearsals are generally held Monday-Friday evenings.  Performance dates are Sept. 30 – Oct. 22 (no Tues, Wed, Sun).  There are 2 Saturday matinees October 15 & 22 at 3 p.m.

Audition Details:

All singing roles:  Prepare 16 bars of a song in style of the show. For live auditions, an aux cord will be available – bring your music track and have it cued. An accompanist will NOT be provided.

For Henry and Mortimer: Please prepare a 30-60 second dramatic death scene.

For the Mute: Please prepare a silent 30-60 second fairy tale/story.

Auditions are done by appointment, and you can register online.  Registration forms will also be provided at the audition. Headshots and resumes can be linked within the audition form or bring them with you to the audition. If unable to attend a live audition, submit a short (one min or less) video audition within the audition registration form.  YouTube links and non-secured Google Drive links are the easiest. Submit a video audition no later than July 26, 2022 at midnight to be considered for callbacks.  For more information, text or call Kathryn Little at 801-836-8104.

Character Descriptions:

El Gallo (Male, High Baritone, 30s-40s) As the narrator of the piece, he is the liaison between the audience and the action onstage.  He is warm, cordial, and inviting to the audience, yet with darker moments.  His attitude toward the rest of the cast reveals a decidedly mysterious side.  Above all he is grand and must command attention.

Matt (Male, Baritone, 16-20s) As a young lover, he is deeply in love, particularly with the idea of being in love.  He lacks experience in the world so, while not stupid, he is naive and perhaps even foolish at times.  His image of a young man in love is one of a gallant protector, meaning that he approaches some decisions with a falsified bravery that is little more than bravado.

Hucklebee and Bellomy (Males, Baritone, 40s-70s) Fathers of Matt and Luisa.  Blustery and Boisterous.  Duo and team.  Strong comedic timing a must.  Always arguing and bickering but secretly plotting together for the marriage of their children.

Henry and Mortimer (Males, non-singing, 30s-70s) Foolish comic actors who move the action while not seeming to contribute anything of substance.  As performers their day has long past.  Henry can play grand characters and recite Shakespeare but with very little success these days.  Mortimer’s specialty is dying on stage in the manner of great adventures and melodramas.  Henry and Mortimer function as a unit and rarely appear apart from each other.  They are entirely theatrical and theirs is the world of the stage.

The Mute (Male or Female, non-singing, any age) The Mute serves many functions—-setting props as characters need them, assisting El Gallo, and becoming the wall separating the families.  This is a functional character who sometimes interacts with the others.
